THE BRIEF: GETTING TO KNOW YOU
The initial consultation is a critical step in the process where the scope of work for your project and your style preferences are defined. This step is broken into two phases: phone consultation and in-person consultation. We set up a time to go over the project details and talk about needs and wants. Then we set up a time to come out to the project site. The in-person consultation is where we walk through the site, identify those areas discussed, review architectural elements & furnishings that may need to be incorporated, talk budget and provide preliminary advice for your project. This meeting is important for us to come up with our proposal and scope of work for you. Because each project is unique to each individual client, a “one size fits all” fee is not possible for the vast majority of interior design projects.
CONCEPT DESIGN: THE FUN BEGINS
Once a client has approved the fee and paid the deposit, we take the time that is required to really plan through your project. A full site survey is needed to measure the space and identify services locations, existing furniture sizes, art, finishes, and any other details that need to be taken into consideration for a successful outcome. Inspiration is taken from sources that may include books, magazines, movies, art and online. All of these ideas are curated to create a mood board of images, colors and materials to reflect the look and feel of your project.
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT: GETTING DOWN TO THE DETAILS
Once the concept is approved, these preliminary ideas are developing further to take your project to the next step. Floor, wall, ceiling treatments, cabinetry finishes, lighting, and furnishings are sourced. We can help with every detail and be as involved as you want or need us to be throughout the process. If external consultations are needed (like engineers, builder advice, etc.) this is generally the stage they are brought into the picture early on to provide expert advice that may impact the design.
DOCUMENTATION: THE HARD (BUT NECESSARY) PART
Once you’ve signed off on the developed concept, we get going with the work of design detailing and documenting. Behind the scenes the full tender package of documentations is developed, including detailed drawings for all custom work, specification documents are developed for all fixtures, furniture and finishes. We will work with your contractor to assure that your design needs are being properly executed throughout the construction and design process.
CONSTRUCTION/INSTALLATION: THE FAVORITE PART
The ideas and plans are coming to life and will be your new reality soon. Site meetings, responding to builder’s or trade industry questions for the project, and shop drawings for custom items are being reviewed and signed off on. Furniture delivery appointments are set up and implemented.
